Purpose
Putting vision into practice
The Islamic Teacher Education Program encourages Muslim educators to think deeply about putting vision into practice. The purpose of this program is to encourage all Islamic school teachers, whether they teach Islamic Studies or any other subject, to define the distinctions of their own teaching practice.
The Program introduces educators to philosophies of Islamic education, or principles of Islamic pedagogy. It extends beyond — while building on — the ideas, theories, and approaches gained in other education programs and certifications. It connects educational thought from the Islamic tradition (classical and contemporary scholarship) with current trends in the field of teacher education in a way that empowers Muslim educators with a deep appreciation for what it means to serve in an Islamic school.
Through a range of guest lecturers and facilitators, the Program offers participants access to some of the most innovative ideas and approaches in the field of Islamic schooling. From frameworks of curriculum integration to instructional approaches that are uniquely grounded in the Islamic tradition, the Program aspires to give teachers the tools to embody their school’s vision and encourage high standards of practice across schools.
