Is it only for K-12 full-time Islamic school teachers? What if I teach at a college, Montessori, home school, weekend school, etc.?

Although the program is designed for educators in full time schools, other educators will still benefit from the ability to connect their teaching philosophy to Islamic principles of education.

Can I take this program while teaching full-time?

Yes. The program is designed for educators with a full time schedule. As such, it’s conducted entirely online and allows flexibility in when you complete coursework. Many successful participants have completed the program with a full-time job, part-time studies, and active community and family lives.

How is course content organized?

Each of the three courses is organized into a series of modules. Each module takes one week to complete. Every week, you’ll receive instructions on how to complete the coursework within that module. Coursework may include readings, videos, assignments, discussion board activities, etc. The work for each module is expected to be completed within the week.

What does a typical week look like?

You will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the week’s module.
You will need to:

  1. Review the material for the week including readings, videos, etc.
  2. Post a comment regarding the module’s content on the discussion board.
  3. Engage in discussion with fellow participants about the module through the discussion board.

The above tasks would take about 3-5 hours to complete in a typical week.

What happens if I cannot complete my work on time?

You have complete flexibility as to when you choose to complete coursework within the module/week. It can be spread out over the entire week, or be completed it all at once. The program is designed to accommodate your schedule and lifestyle. We will provide you with suggestions on when to complete the coursework each week — but ultimately it is up to you to determine your schedule.

If you cannot complete the work for a given module within the week (due to family commitments, illness, travel, etc) — the Course Facilitator will work with you to ensure that you do not fall behind.

What if I am not comfortable with online learning?

Our team provides technical support and will help you become familiar with the online learning environment. We provide a video tutorial on how to use Blackboard and send you emails every week with instructions on what you need to do. If you have any questions, you can always phone or email us for help.

What is the difference between a live session and a video lecture?

At the beginning and end of each course, there will be a live session where you can ask the Course Facilitator questions in real time.

Video lectures are conducted by leading experts in the field and are one of the anchors of the programs content. The video lectures are pre-recorded so you can view them at any time.

After completing the program, what will I receive?

Successful Program graduates will receive a Professional Learning Certificate (PLC) from the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education — Continuing Education Unit.

Can this certificate make me a credentialed teacher?

The PLC will help you in attaining re-certification and to strengthen your teaching portfolio. It should not be seen as a replacement to Teachers’ College or an education degree.
