Dr. Fida Sanjakdar is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Monash University in Australia, and holds a PhD in education.

Drawing from her extensive research and expertise in this area, Dr.Fida will discsuss the following questions in her presentation on Sexual Education and Islam.

  1. Is the relationship between religion and sexuality contradictory or complementary?
  2. What are the perspectives, possibilities, and problems associated with teaching sexual education from an Islamic point of view
  3. How do we integrate Islam into this subject area?

About the Presenter

Dr. Fida Sanjakdar is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Monash University in Australia, and holds a PhD in Education. Her PhD research was a qualitative study which used critical action research to critique ideology and bring about curriculum reform to sexual health education for Australian Muslim youth. She has published widely in the area of critical sexuality education, Muslim youth identities, Islamic culture and socio-cultural theory. Her latest book is titled, Living West Facing East: the (de)construction of Muslim youth sexual identities (2011, Peter Lang).
